STUDIO RESIDENCY SUMMER 2025

Parent Company is pleased to announce the artists selected as the recipients of this year's Studio Residency Program. This program attracted an incredibly impressive pool of applicants. After careful consideration, two outstanding artists working collaboratively were selected for this unique opportunity. More details on the application process can be found here.

The Studio Residency Program is designed to provide emerging artists working in installation or performance with a dedicated space to explore and develop their artistic practice. Over the course of the eight-week residency, these artists will work out of the gallery space, hosting public programming and events, and create a culminating installation.

Throughout the residency, Parent Company will work closely with the selected artists to facilitate opportunities for public engagement, collaboration, and artistic growth. The community is invited to follow the progress of the residents through regular updates on our website and social media.

We are proud to introduce the 2025 Studio Residency Program recipients James Chrzan and Rachel Hillery.

The collaborative duo creates open-ended operatic productions, rooted in improvisation and rhythm, that integrate their combined backgrounds of art, architecture, music, and writing. Their practice also extends beyond performances and includes accompanying prints, programs, and books.

As a composer, James Chrzan is interested in developing systematic composition methods that are rooted in chance. He is particularly interested in sight-specific sound, such as aleatoric music, and church bell ringing, and explores how the natural sounds of certain locations interact with composed and performed material.

Rachel Hillery is a librettist whose work combines original language with historical texts. She is primarily interested in exploring the relationship between the individual speaker and group speech. She draws influence from feminist theory, psychology, and her own experiences with group speaking.
