Parent Company is pleased to announce a new site-specific performance by Ye’ela Wilschanski. Void Hugger is approximately 30 minutes long and performed for a live audience.

Wilschanski’s primary medium is sculpture, interwoven with performance and video. Her architectural garments carefully construct structural forms such as windows and archways. During performances, the artist enters these wearable items, transforming both the artist’s body and the garment itself.

As the artist moves within the fabric, the sewn environment shifts. Parts of her body appear and disappear through an intimate choreography of care and balance. The performance, the artist, and the space become a self-contained, self-supporting structure. Within this world, Wilschanski builds and destroys, sets the table, eats, cleans, mourns, grieves, and consoles. At times her body appears diminutive in relation to the structure, and at other times, her body grows and seems to consume the armature.

Working with assembled pieces of fabric is both a pragmatic and creative choice for Wilschanski. Like a magician, she disassembles and reassembles these large-scale sewn forms. Their compactness allows for less cumbersome transportation and minimal storage space. Her sophisticated designs are essentially an extension of her body, which she considers to be the anchor of her performances. Through choreography, Wilschanski examines the notion of functionality and corporeality in an environment she creates.
